PresAddress 2017 a

As outgoing President (and now Past President) of the Linguistic Association of Canada and the United States (LACUS), Prof. Douglas W. Coleman gave the Presidential Address at its 44th annual conference, which was held in Hamilton, Ontario, July 31 – August 3. He spoke at the LACUS XLIV Presidential Banquet on “Physical-Domain Linguistic Analogues of Complementary Distribution and Contrast.” In his presentation, he argued that linguistics should move away from an abstract notion of intuited language data to more scientific criteria of observations of people communicating in the real world.
